Gordon 1966
Gordon released one record on the Uptown label in late 1966. The A-side was a jangly, reworded version of Greensleeves, and the B-side was the song Send For Me, released the following year under the The Liberty Party name on Jerden Records and appearing on the first Battle of the Bands LP. So who exactly was Gordon?
The Gordon on this record is Gordon Kjellberg, formerly of the Liberty Party. Kjellberg wrote Send For Me and arranged Greensleeves. The recording may not just be Gordon, however, but the rest of The Liberty Party as well. According to the liner notes of Northwest Battle of the Bands Volume II, these two songs were from the same recording session as Please Help the Man, which remained unreleased until the previously mentioned CD was released in 2001. Reportedly, the session took place in the spring of 1966 after Kjellberg's six-month time in the military had ended.
Whether the songs are "lost" Liberty Party recordings or simply Kjellberg himself, they are just as good as any Liberty Party material, and definitely worth listening to.

Lyrics
Greensleeves (Arr. G. Kjellberg)
Gone is the love that we once knew Now I cry to the music of Greensleeves I walked one day ‘neath the summer sky And my heart was young but alone was I She came along and then I heard The beautiful music of Greensleeves She held my hand, happiness complete We kissed that night as we vowed to meet The promises she made were oh so sweet Sweet as the music of Greensleeves And gone (gone) is the love (is the love) that we (that we) once knew (once knew) And the beautiful music of Greensleeves And gone (gone) is the love (is the love) that we (that we) once knew (once knew) Now I cry to the music of Greensleeves Now I walk every day ‘neath the winter sky And my heart feels so bad and alone am I I can’t believe that she said goodbye (goodbye) Now I cry to the music of Greensleeves Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh |
Send For Me (G. Kjellberg)
Chain me down if I can’t laugh or make a frown Send me away ‘cause I don’t want to stay anyway I can’t see won’t someone please send for me? Oh please send for me There was a girl, should I miss her? Or should, should I resist her? Chain me down if I can’t laugh or make a frown Send me away ‘cause I don’t want to stay anyway I can’t see won’t someone please send for me? Oh please send for me There was a girl, should I miss her? Or should, should I resist her? Oh please send for me Oh please send for me Oh please send for me Oh please send for me |
